Spiritual Care Committee

At Kauai Hospice, we take a holistic approach to care, recognizing the physical, emotional, and spiritual interconnectedness of our being.  A Spiritual Care Committee meets quarterly to work with the Spiritual Care Coordinator in serving as a liaison between Kauai Hospice and religious leaders within the community.  The Committee strives to bring together voices representing a variety of religious traditions in an advisory role to enhance the spiritual care provided to Kauai Hospice patients and families.  The Committee’s responsibilities include the following:

  • Planning and coordinating the annual community-wide memorial service
  • Serving as a support and resource to the Spiritual Care Coordinator
  • Developing and coordinating educational programs and/or seminars for Kauai Hospice staff, Committee members, members of the Board of Directors, and the island community to increase awareness of the spiritual dimension of dying.

Community Presentations:

As a service to the community, a variety of hospice presentations are available, free of charge, to the community.  Sample topics by hospice staff include the following:

What is Hospice?
Clergy’s Role in the Hospice Team
Signs and Symptoms of Death
Cultural and Religious Traditions at Death
Understanding “Comfort Care”
Advance Directives
Stages of Grieving
Living with Grief and Loss
