Dorene Sautner is our oldest (and wisest so she says) employee. She is our on-call nurse, who is available 24-7 nights, weekends and holidays for our patients’ and their families’ needs.
I was born and raised and schooled in California. I have 2 daughters, 2 stepsons and 6 grandchildren of whom I am very proud (don’t get her started). I moved to Honolulu in 1977 (came on vacation and just stayed). I worked for Kaiser Hospital full-time on the orthopedic floor for 20 years. My husband died in 1995 under hospice care. In 1997 I went part-time with Kaiser and was a hospice volunteer on Oahu until 1999 when I finally “retired” and moved to Kaua’i, my favorite place on earth. I came to Kaua'i Hospice to volunteer, and was hired instead, to relieve the staff nurses of their on-call duties. I have been with Kaua'i Hospice ever since. I have found my “niche” and believe that this is what I was meant to do in the “autumn of my life”. I love the ocean, am an avid reader and a sports enthusiast.
